As most of you know, I am a 911 dispatcher. Most days don't bother me and I don't let calls affect me after I leave the building.
Yesterday I answered a call to screaming and crying, the kind that rattles your bones.
I tried telling her to take a deep breath because I still wasn't sure if she needed police or a paramedic.
I transferred her to the fire department where she was able to say her husband was purple and on the bathroom floor.
The fire dispatcher began CPR instructions. He counted with her while she held the phone, cried and counted 1,2,3,4. 1,2,3,4. 1,2,3,4.
My heart ached. I knew he was gone.
He was only 40.
With 3 children at school.
It appears a heart attack took him.
It bothered me all day. I prayed for his wife and children last night.
And it reminded me to treasure each day.

Oh my gosh. I got chills reading that. I don't know how you do it. :( That is heartbreaking. :( So close to Christmas too. :(
This just sent shivers down my spine. Such a sad thing, especially so close to the holidays.
When you were talking about your shift work previously, I thought you were a nurse. Learn something new every day! I can only imagine how tough your job must be! I'm not sure I could handle it. Actually, I know I couldn't.
ughhh, so sad. I'm not sure I could do that (especially without crying!). Also, I don't stay calm in scary situations. Thinking of his family.
I've thought about how you handle your job when you've mentioned it before. I imagine there are some really tough days. What a good reminder for us all, though.

I'll remember the family for sure. That is so young to lose a dad, a husband. My husband's grandpa passed away last weekend from a heart attack, so this story hits close to home.
I did want to tell you this though. Every time I click on your page, I smile at your banner. I love all 3 of your photos so much :)

Oh girl I know how those calls go. I remember when I was first out of training this sweet old man called and his wife was already gone, but he was talking so sweetly to her saying "baby please dont go" After we hung up i silently cried at my desk. They really do rattle your bones.

You are a strong woman to be able to do that job yet knowing when to not bring it home with you.

oh my gosh i cannot even imagine. It takes a strong, special person to do what you do and help out people in their time if need and panic! I would cry every day I think!! This is definitely a reminder of how fragile life is and how quickly our loved ones can be taken. Praying for that family!
I work in a similar government field and those days are rough. I hope that family can find some peace during the holiday.
